PASS the ATI TEAS exam with these Strategies!

Hey guys! Jakara Lewis here with some awesome test taking strategies that I've used with students for the last 10 years! These strategies have helped 1,000+ students perform extremely well on the math portion of their TEAS test.

Test Taking Strategies

1. DON’T OVERTHINK THE TEST

It’s just a test! Like many, you’ve probably felt totally defeated by math your entire life. Fortunately, this study guide will help to ease your anxiety, but you must be willing to put in the work. The better you get, the more confident you will become!

2. MASTER THE CONTENT

Take your time and learn the material. Go through every example and complete all of the practice questions to help you retain the content. Practice these questions over and over until you master the concepts. For many of you, this will require hours and hours of studying for an extended period and that’s ok! Studying should also be goal oriented; studying for hours means nothing if you haven’t showed any signs of improvement. Practice until you can answer these questions confidently and correctly.

3. MANAGE YOUR TIME

Time management is one of the most important aspects of studying. Too often, people make the mistake of trying to “cram” the information into their minds in a short period of time. The reality is that this short cut rarely proves to be successful for test takers. Utilize the schedules that have been provided on the next page, and plan accordingly. If math is one of your major weaknesses, then you should plan to dedicate a few hours each day to study.

4. BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF

As you begin to study, make sure you always remain honest with yourself. Remember, one of the most important aspects of studying is progressing. The only way to progress is to work hard, study, and learn from your mistakes. Don’t trick yourself into thinking you’re comfortable with the content when you’re truly not.

5. KEEP TESTING

As you begin studying, keep in mind the importance of continuously assessing yourself. Take as many practice tests as you can before you take the official test. Practice tests are great tools that allow you to mimic the testing conditions and expose you to a variety of ways in which the topics can be presented. Make use of the answer explanations and learn from your mistakes. Make sure you go back and review the content covering the questions that you missed, and complete practice questions to assist you in retaining the content.

6. DON’T GIVE UP

As you begin your journey towards nursing, keep in mind that the road will be tough and there will be moments where you may feel defeated; in the midst of these temporary moments, remember to push forward. There will be good days, there will be bad days, there will be days where studying will be the last thing on your mind; in the midst of these temporary moments, remember to push forward. You are in control of your destiny, and it is you who will decide how far you will go. No matter what life throws at you, always remember to never give up!

Remember, standardized testing is half content and half strategy. Utilize these small tips and tricks, and you'll notice a difference in your test taking skills. Until next time, be blessed and happy studying!
